Castlemaine will be hosting their 6th Annual Jazz Festival over the Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

This year’s Festival features more than fifty outstanding bands and around 300 highly talented musicians. Held across five unique central Castlemaine venues, with a full programme starting from the Friday evening and going through until Monday afternoon, the festival will be celebrating a broad range of jazz styles and performers from across the region and beyond.

2019 Jazz Festival highlights include:

-‘The Seven Ups’, performing at the Theatre Royal are the original seven-piece party band from Melbourne, blending influences from 1970s Nigerian Afrobeat with the deepest of street funk.

-Festival favourites ‘Low Down Big Band’, an 18 piece Melbourne-borne big band will be playing a balanced mix of Trad, Blues, Funk, New Orleans, and Contemporary styles. Expect high intensity, hard- swinging, funk-filled fun.

-A new addition to the Festival programme will be the original and electrifying fusion quartet ‘Jungle Fusion’. With their deep ethno roots and avant-garde philosophy you can expect a wild and eclectic show. Think Jimi Hendrix meets Miles Davis.

-‘The Goldfields Jazz Orchestra’ with Meg Corson performing at the Theatre Royal will be bringing an unforgettable experience. These highly talented musicians, a collaboration by instrument musicians from across the region debuted at the 2018 festival and were a smash hit.

-Guest artist and world-renowned Gambian singer/songwriter Yusupha Ngum will be bringing his newest creative undertaking to the Festival this year – a six-piece African fusion outfit with ‘The Affia Band’

-Combining Jazz, Soul, & Funk the award-winning 22 year old performer and composer, Emilia, will be performing two shows during the Festival. Likened to power-house vocalists such as Chaka Khan, Etta James and Aretha Franklin, get ready to be transported back into time with Emilia’s timeless voice.
