Stonefield, a Victorian rock band comprising of four talented sisters, are a rising act ready to tackle the world with energy and a unique style that has critics buzzing. While title tracks ‘Love you Deserve’ and ‘Put Your Curse on Me’ have regular airtime on Triple M and Triple J, there is plenty to get excited about when listening to their latest album (self-titled).
Despite being on tour and working through a heavy schedule, the ladies from Stonefield took the time to answer some questions regarding gigs, fans, the rock industry and future plans.
Who are you major musical influences?
All the typical culprits that I’m sure you have heard: Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Doors, Zappa, Fleetwood Mac, all the greats pretty much! As well as heaps of new bands: Goat, Blues Pills, Band Of Skulls, Tame Impala, the list goes on.
You’ve played at Glastonbury and opened for an AFL match. What has been your most memorable gig so far?
Definitely Glastonbury. It was such a mix of emotions. We had never been both so nervous and excited in our lives. I’m sure it’s a memory that will stick with us for the rest of our lives.
Being a band of sisters do you find yourselves arguing often? And if so, who’s the biggest troublemaker?
Yes and no. We do argue over typical sister kind of stuff, but at the same time we are very close. We tell each other everything, spend so much time together and all have the same interests and tastes. Holly is the biggest troublemaker for sure. She’s 16 and a typical teenager.
What are your thoughts on the rock music industry as it stands in 2014?
Kind of disappointing to be honest. I really thought rock was going to come back in a big way, but it seems electronic music is really soaking up the limelight. There are so many incredible rock bands around though.. it’s a shame there doesn’t seem to be more of an appreciation for them.
If you could collaborate with one band or artist for a live show, who would it be and why?
What remains of Led Zeppelin. They are and always have been our biggest influence, so that would be pretty mind blowing…
After winning Triple J’s Unearthed award in 2010, what has been the biggest breakthrough for the band to date?
Getting to the point of releasing an album, having people actually purchase and love it is a huge deal…a pretty satisfactory achievement!
When performing to a live audience which track gets the most attention?
At the moment it seems to be ‘Put Your Curse On Me’.
Can you describe your fans in one word?
“Rock”
With the ‘Love you deserve’ tour almost complete, what’s next for Stonefield?
We are about to head back to the UK to play a bunch of shows and see if we can stir up a bit of attention while we’re at it. We’re really excited about the trip, and we’re also working on songs for the next release!
Stonefield’s self-titled album is available now on iTunes.
