Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Leon Bridges is heading back to Australia in 2027, bringing his The Happiness Anytime Tour to Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens on Saturday 6 March.
The Melbourne show will see Bridges joined by special guests 54 Ultra and local funk favourites Surprise Chef, bringing together an international soul star and one of Melbourne’s most celebrated instrumental groups for an outdoor summer performance.
The show is part of Bridges’ Australian tour across February and March 2027, which will also include performances in Sydney, Brisbane, Fremantle and Adelaide.
For Melbourne, the Royal Botanic Gardens provides the setting for a live show built around the warm, groove-led sound of Bridges’ upcoming fifth studio album, Happiness Anytime.
The final instalment of the album is due for release on 25 September via Columbia Records. Parts 1 and 2 have already introduced a new, sun-soaked direction for Bridges, combining the sonic warmth of his acclaimed 2015 debut Coming Home with the more adventurous spirit of his collaborations with Khruangbin.
Produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of British trio Jungle, Happiness Anytime is centred around movement, groove and joy.
“For me, happiness is not a feeling that you chase,” Bridges says. “I want this album to be something that lingers with people and lingers in people’s bones.”
That approach is also making its way into Bridges’ live performances through Leon Bridges Presents Happiness Anytime, a reimagined stage production featuring a DJ, horn section, three backing vocalists and Bridges himself.
Inspired in part by the communal spirit of classic Jamaican dancehall culture, the new production puts movement and dance at the centre of the experience.
Bridges has been introducing the new music to audiences around the world over recent months, with pop-up performances in Paris, Cannes, Los Angeles, Montreux, London, Chicago and at Outside Lands.
He has also built a reputation as a captivating live performer, with his timeless voice and charismatic stage presence complemented by impeccable musicianship and a strong sense of joy.

Surprise Chef Joins Leon Bridges In Melbourne
Melbourne audiences will also get a local addition to the bill, with Surprise Chef joining Bridges at the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The Coburg quartet have built an international following with their intricate instrumental grooves, drawing heavily on funk, soul and cinematic influences.
The group’s fifth studio album, Frogs In A Pond, is forthcoming via Concord Jazz and is described as a lush suite of cinematic soul inspired by Italian cinema of the 1960s and 70s.
The band have developed their distinctive sound from their Melbourne base, with their long-running “College Of Knowledge” serving as both a share house and recording studio.
Joining them on the Melbourne bill is 54 Ultra, the solo project of New Jersey singer, songwriter and producer JohnAnthony Rodriguez.
54 Ultra blends synthy indie rock with Latin soul, with recent release Tell Me combining warm Latin influences with hazy production and an infectious groove.
The project has also appeared at Coachella and Lollapalooza this year, alongside an upcoming support slot on Malcolm Todd’s North American tour.
