Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens is about to become a medieval kingdom complete with DJs, roving performers, costumes and dragons.
If your ideal night out involves equal parts dancefloor, fantasy world and questionable medieval decision-making, there’s a new event coming to Melbourne that should probably be on your radar.
Renfair Rave is making its debut at the Royal Botanic Gardens on Friday 20 November, bringing the world of Melbourne Renfair into the city’s biggest outdoor music setting for one very strange, very fun night.
The concept is exactly what it sounds like: take the medieval fantasy world of Melbourne Renfair, throw it into a rave, add a bunch of DJs and immersive entertainment, and let Melbourne do the rest.
The Royal Botanic Gardens will be transformed with medieval décor, roving entertainers, spectacular costumes and plenty of surprises. The organisers are also promising dragons.
On the decks will be Adriana, Milo Eastwood, SWEETIE and Yacht Club DJs, with the lineup bringing together some of Melbourne’s familiar selectors and party-starting personalities.
Adriana is known for high-energy sets spanning house, disco and dancefloor anthems, while Milo Eastwood moves between house, disco, techno and plenty in between. SWEETIE brings her genre-hopping approach to the bill, with Melbourne mash-up favourites Yacht Club DJs rounding things out with their trademark combination of nostalgia, chaos and big singalong moments.
And while dressing up isn’t mandatory, the organisers are very much encouraging it.
Think knights, elves, rogues, gnomes, sorcerers or whatever medieval character you’ve been waiting for an excuse to become.
Renfair Rave comes from the team behind Melbourne Renfair Festival, which has built a sizeable community around medieval fantasy, live entertainment and immersive experiences — selling 14,000 tickets in less than 24 hours for its most recent festival.
This time, they’re taking that world somewhere considerably more unexpected.
The event is part of Live at the Gardens, the Royal Botanic Gardens’ outdoor music series, and will be a one-night-only event.
