Dating apps are fine, but there’s something to be said for meeting someone the old-fashioned way, over a very good meal.
This October, Steakbabes’ Steak & Date is returning to Pincho Disco in Collingwood, bringing singles together for an evening of speed dating, cocktails and an eight-course steak-filled feast.
Taking place on Thursday 8 October, the event will run two separate sittings on the same night, with one room for 20 to 35 year olds and another for 25 to 40 year olds. Each room will seat 13 women and 13 men, with guests getting around six to seven minutes at each table before the bell rings and it’s time to move on.
While the dating gets underway, chef Diego Cardenas will be sending out an eight-course feast, with the sample menu featuring oysters with pickled onion and tiger’s milk, kingfish belly aguachile cannoli, truffle chipa bread with goat’s curd, MB6-7 flank steak skewers, short rib with corn tortilla and salsa macha, and wagyu rump cap with salsa criolla. There’s also a welcome cocktail included in the $95 ticket.
And there’s a particularly fitting reason Steakbabes is bringing the event back to Pincho Disco.
The venue is where co-host H met her own partner, Mikey, at a Steak & Date event two years ago. After a slow burn, the pair are now celebrating 18 months together, meaning H is returning to the same room to help the next crop of singles find their own match.
The format is refreshingly low-tech, too. Phones are banned, conversation is encouraged, and guests get a match card at the end of the night to privately nominate who they’d like to see again. Matches are revealed within 48 hours, with Steakbabes also providing first-date ideas for those who get a mutual tick.
So, if you’re single, hungry and willing to let a bell dictate your romantic prospects for the evening, this could be one way to make a Thursday night interesting.
